"Philosopher for hire"
T4THNK
Contemporary · echoes the Sophists (5th c. BCE) & philosophical counselling
In ancient Athens the Sophists taught wisdom for a fee, while Socrates famously refused payment, insisting he knew nothing worth selling. Ever since, philosophy has wrestled with whether thinking can be a service. Today philosophical counselling and coaching say yes - not by selling answers, but by helping people examine their assumptions, clarify their values and think more clearly about their own lives. The slogan is playful and a little provocative. It recasts philosophy not as an ivory-tower subject but as a practical craft: something you can call on, like a plumber for the mind, when the pipes of meaning get blocked.
